Browse Apps gives you access to Ranksy's complete Shopify App Store database. Research competitors, discover market opportunities, and follow apps you want to track — all in one place.
Accessing Browse Apps
Click Explore in the sidebar, then select Browse Apps.
Searching for Apps
Search Bar
Use the search bar at the top of the Browse Apps page to search across the entire database:
- App names
- Developer names
- Keywords in descriptions
Results update as you type (with a short debounce delay).
Search Tips
- Partial names work: "down" finds "DownPay", "Countdown Timer", and more
- Developer names: Search by company name to find all their apps
- Case insensitive: "DOWNPAY" and "downpay" return the same results
- Clear search: Click the × button to reset
Filtering Results
Opening Filters
Look for the Filters button next to the search bar. Click it to open the filter panel.
Available Filters
By Category
- Select one or multiple categories
- Find apps in your market or adjacent spaces
By Pricing
- Free, Paid, or Freemium
- Specific price ranges
By Rating
- Set a minimum star rating (e.g. 4.0+)
- Set a maximum to find apps that are struggling
By Review Count
- Set minimum and maximum review counts
- Find established apps or newer entrants
By Last Updated
- Recently updated
- Specific date ranges
Built for Shopify
- Toggle ON to show only apps with the "Built for Shopify" badge
- These apps meet Shopify's highest quality standards
Applying Filters
Filters apply automatically as you change them (400ms debounce). On some pages a manual Apply Filters button is shown — click it to confirm.
Clearing Filters
- Click Clear Filters to reset all filters at once
- Or remove individual filters directly — changes apply immediately
Sorting Results
Click column headers to sort:

Click the same header again to reverse the sort direction. An arrow (↑ or ↓) indicates the active sort.

Each app card shows:

How to Follow
- Find the app you want to track
- Click the Follow button on the app card or detail page
- The app appears in Explore → Followed Apps
Managing Followed Apps
- Go to Explore → Followed Apps
- View all apps you are tracking
- Unfollow any you no longer need
Combining Search, Filters, and Sort
You can use all three together for precise research.
Find quality email marketing apps:
- Search "email"
- Filter by Category: Marketing
- Filter by Rating: 4.5+
- Filter by Reviews: 100+
- Sort by Rating (highest first)
Find emerging competitors:
- Filter by your category
- Sort by Recently Updated
- Filter by Reviews: max 50 (new but gaining traction)
Find market leaders:
- Filter by your category
- Filter by Reviews: 500+
- Toggle Built for Shopify ON
- Sort by Review count
Pagination
- Results are paginated (typically 24 per page)
- Navigate with Previous / Next buttons or page numbers
- Your filters and sort are preserved when you change pages
- The result count shows at the top: "Showing 1–24 of 156 apps"
Tips for Effective Browsing
- Start broad: Search your main category first
- Apply filters: Narrow by pricing, rating, or BFS badge
- Review results: Scan app cards for patterns
- Deep dive: Click into interesting apps
- Follow key apps: Build your tracking list
- Bookmark searches: Filters are included in the URL — bookmark the page to return to a filtered view
Troubleshooting
No results found
- Clear all filters and try again
- Check for typos in the search
- Try partial names instead of full names
- Remove rating or review count filters — they may be too restrictive
Results look unexpected
- Check the active filter count on the Filters button (e.g. "Filters (3)")
- Check the sort direction — ascending vs descending
Filters not working
- Click Apply Filters if the button is present
- Refresh the page and try again

Q: How many apps are in the database? A: We track all apps in the Shopify App Store, updated daily.
Q: How current is the data? A: App data and rankings sync daily.
Q: Can I search by developer? A: Yes — the search includes developer names.
Q: Can I export app lists? A: Export is available for followed apps.
Q: Is there a limit to how many apps I can follow? A: Limits depend on your plan. Check Settings for details.
Q: Can I see historical data for any app? A: Full historical tracking is available for apps you follow. Recent public data is available for all apps.
Q: Will the app developer know I'm tracking them? A: No. Following an app is completely private.
