Subscriptions
Aggregate MRR tells you the total, but plan-level data tells you the story. The Subscriptions tab breaks your revenue down by plan so you can see which tiers are growing, which are flat, and how merchants are moving between them.
Prerequisite
The Subscriptions tab requires your Partner API to be connected and synced.
What the Subscriptions tab shows
Summary cards
At the top of the page you'll see snapshot figures for the selected period:
| Card | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active subscriptions | Total paying merchants at period end |
| Total MRR | Sum of MRR across all active plans |
| New subscriptions | Plans activated within the period |
| Churned subscriptions | Plans cancelled within the period |
Per-plan breakdown
The plan table shows every plan that had at least one subscriber during the period:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Plan name | The plan name as set in Shopify |
| Subscribers | Active subscriber count at period end |
| MRR | Monthly recurring revenue contributed by this plan |
| Share | This plan's percentage of total MRR |
| Change | Subscriber count change vs the previous period |
💡 Total MRR on the Subscriptions tab is the sum of all plan rows. If the numbers look higher than what you see on the Overview, check whether the date ranges match — Overview shows a point-in-time snapshot; Subscriptions can span a longer window.
Plan MRR history chart
The chart shows a line per plan over time, so you can visually track which plans are growing and which are contracting. The bold total line is the sum of all plan lines — it matches the MRR trend on the Revenue Overview.
A plan line moving up while others are flat means customers are self-selecting into that tier. A plan line moving down across the board usually signals churn rather than plan migration.
Subscription event feed
Below the chart, the event feed lists individual subscription lifecycle events within the selected period. Use the Status filter to narrow to a specific event type:
| Filter | Events shown |
|---|---|
| All | Every event |
| Converted | Trial-to-paid conversions |
| Upgraded | Moves to a higher plan |
| Downgraded | Moves to a lower plan |
| Churned | Cancellations |
Each event row links to the merchant's entry in the Customers tab.
Reading plan-level signals
- Rising subscriber count, flat MRR per subscriber — Customers are concentrating on lower-value plans; consider whether your plan pricing matches value delivered.
- One plan dominates MRR share — Revenue concentration risk. If that plan churns heavily, your MRR takes a disproportionate hit.
- Upgrade events outpace downgrade events — Expansion is healthy; your product is delivering enough value that customers opt for more.
FAQ
Q: A plan has 0 subscribers but still appears. Why? A: It had activity (events) in the selected period even if it ended with no active subscribers. Narrow the date range or filter by event type to see what happened.
Q: The plan names differ from what I set in Shopify. A: Ranksy reads plan names exactly as returned by the Partner API. If you renamed a plan in Shopify after customers subscribed, older subscriptions may still carry the old name.
Q: Annual plans look odd in MRR — are they converted correctly? A: Yes. Annual subscription amounts are divided by 12 and stored as monthly equivalents so they compare correctly alongside monthly plans.
